Handley streaks clear Jun 5 2008
Izaak Walton Golf Club Darell Cooper Memorial Trophy The first major trophy competition of the season took place at Izaak Walton Golf Club recently and it turned out to be a close run thing except for the winner. That turned out to be Ben Handley who scored 42 points in this stableford competition. Handley, playing off a handicap of 15. He was three points ahead of the rest of the field, and saw him drop two shots to 13 for his next competition. more
All change but town suffer heavy defeat to Bilbrook Aug 14 2008
Saturday 9th August 2008 West Midlands (Regional) League Division 1 Stafford Town 0 - 4 Bilbrook Town kicked off the season with high expectations, and paraded several new signings. With a strong breeze at their backs, Town were struggling to find their rhythm, and after 6 minutes they fell behind when a cross from the right was controlled by the Bilbrook No.8 and hammered past Paul Burn in the bottom corner. Three minutes later, Town almost got back in the game when Mick Fox turned his marker in the six yard box, but his lob was just wide of the post. Two minutes later Ashley Sheridan, returning to the club after a two-year absence, had a header ruled out for a push on the defender. Town at this stage had started to play some good football, with Ashley Sheridan quite prominent up front with his clever ball control. more
Mellor is clear victor in August medal Aug 14 2008
Izaak Walton Golf Club August Medal It was only in the second division that there was a clear cut winner in the August medal at Izaak Walton Golf Club, and it was Ian Mellor who shot a net 65 from his handicap of 20 to destroy the opposition, the second place being five shots behind. This spot was taken by Eric Woodward, one of two players to record as net 70 with Graham McIntyre in third place and losing out on count-back. more

The Vodkat League Division 1 Eccleshall 3 Rochdale Town 2 A larger crowd than normal paid their respects before the game to Danny Stevens, Eccleshall's club captain who was tragically killed in the close season. Both teams wore arm bands and a continuous applause was given to Danny. more
Eccleshall keeping danny's memory alive Aug 7 2008
Eccleshall FC have thanked all of the people who have contributed to the Danny Stevens Memorial Fund, which has been established following his tragic death during the close season. Over £4,300 has been donated so far. Many of you will have already paid your respects at the funeral, which over 500 people attended. Additionally, however, in conjunction with Danny's family, Eccleshall FC have decided that the first home games of the new season for both the 1st and 2nd teams, on Saturday August 9th against Rochdale Town in the Vodkat North West Counties League and on Saturday August 16th against Alsager Town in the Staffs County Senior League, will also be used as an opportunity for the club to publicly recognise the great role Danny played within the club, both as a player and as the Club captain. more
Mixed fortunes for town in pre-season Aug 7 2008
Tuesday 29th July 2008 Stafford Town 0 Port Vale XI 2 The Reds were beaten by Port Vale's Youth side who reached last season's FA Youth Cup Semi-Final before losing to Chelsea. The visitors opened strongly and coach Andy Porter put them ahead after 8 minutes, Town were treating the visitors with too much respect and they doubled their lead before half time. The second half was much better for Town and they almost scored when a shot crashed against the Vale crossbar and the keeper pulled off a fine save. more

It was a busy Sunday for Stafford Harriers on July 20, when 19 runners ran the Trentham 10 mile race at Tittensor, Paul Douglas won the first over 55 prize and Peter Sarson won t he first over 60 prize. Paul Douglas finished in the time of 1.04.03 and Peter Sarson finished 1.05.16, he was followed by Mark Bentley 1.09.42, Bernard Wilkes 1.15.11, Ed Smith 1.15.41, Tim Hough 1.15.50, Robert Proctor 1.16.44, Chris Skellern 1.17.00, Lucy Earnshaw 1.18.50, Neil Oldfield 1.21.04, Ralph Wedlock 1.21.16, Graham Williams 1.22.37, Karen Davies 1.23.33, David Cowley 1.23.37, Tony Baker 1.23.49, Bill Whitworth 1.28.35, Karen D Murray 1.31.12, Judith Colman 1.43.34, Gillian Caldwell 1.44.45 first lady over 70.
